An diesem Tag bekommen die Kinder einen altersgerechten Einblick in die Aktivitäten an der Akademie. Gleichzeitig werden auch generell Informationen über das Leben an einer Universität vermittelt: Was ist der Unterschied zwischen Schule und Studium? Wie schaut der Arbeitsalltag eines Wissenschaftler aus? Was bieten Universitäten neben einem Studium sonst noch?

Neben diesen generellen Informationen, bieten wir den Kindern auch konkret Einblick in ein spezielles Fachgebiet. Mag. Michael Schneider wird den Schüler/innen einige spannende und zum Teil auch schmackhafte Experimente aus dem Bereich der Physik vorführen. Die Kinder sind eingeladen auch selbst aktiv daran teilzunehmen. So können Sie hauthah erleben wie spannend Naturwissenschaft sein kann, und welche Vielzahl von Dingen es auf diesem Gebiet zu erforschen gibt.

Die Internationale Akademie Traunkirchen möchte damit einen Beitrag liefern, junge Menschen schon frühzeitig auf ein mögliches Studium aufmerksam zu machen. Und natürlich setzen wir gerne unseren Schwerpunkt auf den facettenreichen Bereich der Naturwissenschaften.

Unsere Intuition legt nahe, dass es in unserem Gehirn eine Instanz gibt, die über alle im Gedächtnis gespeicherten und durch Sinnessignale ergänzten Informationen verfügt. Dieser Instanz obläge es, das Geschehen im Körper und der Welt draußen zu interpretieren, daraus Schlüsse zu ziehen, Entscheidungen zu fällen und zukünftiges Handeln zu strukturieren. Die Ergebnisse der Hirnforschung widersprechen dieser so plausibel erscheinenden Vermutung. Sie verneinen die Existenz einer zentralen Instanz  und zeichnen das Bild eines in hohem Maße distributiv organisierten Systems, in dem ständig eine Vielzahl sensorischer und exekutiver Prozesse parallel ablaufen. Es wird diskutiert, auf welche Weise diese verteilten Funktionen sich selbst organisieren und so verbinden können, dass sie zu kohärenten Wahrnehmungen, Entscheidungen, Aktionen und bewussten Zuständen führen. Auf mögliche Parallelen zur Organisation von komplexen sozialen Systemen wird verwiesen.

Prof. Dr. Wolf Singer vom Max-Planck-Institut für Hirnforschung gehört weltweit zu den besten Neurophysiologen.

Harvey M. Friedman is Distinguished University Professor of Mathematics, Philosophy, and Computer Science at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he has also been affiliated with the School of Music.

Friedman follows The Foundational Life, which focuses on fundamental investigations into the essence of diverse areas of thought. Friedman is best known for his work in the Foundations of Mathematics.

Over the years, Friedman, an essentially self‐taught pianist, has been engaged in the creation of purely mental piano performances. He has created a 27 minute CD, which is a “copy” of his purely mental performances of a range of piano works including four Chopin Preludes, Beethoven’s Fur Elise, Mendelssohn’s Spinning Song, Paderewski’s Minuet in G, and The Ohio State University football song Across The Field.

The 27 minute CD was created through dozens of hours of micro editing on a computer system, involving virtually endless repeated mental performances of musical phrases and larger musical structures that are meticulously matched with computer displays. All detailed musical decisions are made by Friedman.

After this adventure, Friedman noticed a mysterious dramatic improvement in his regular piano playing – at age 60, with very little in the way of physical practice. Friedman has added modest doses of physical practice time, limited by his active Foundational Life, resulting in ongoing dramatic improvements. These improvements include all aspects of finger technique, as well as creative musical imagination.

PROGRAM

Friedman will begin with a lecture on mental piano performance. He will discuss piano playing and recording, including piano technique, piano expression, and microstructure, with help from the Clavinova hooked up to his laptop. After the lecture, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The lecture/performance will be followed by a piano recital:
